The following two tables of statistics represent the total
number of diagnoses of Mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) that have been compiled by
the National Referral Laboratory at the Women's and Children's Hospital,
Adelaide, South Australia.
The first table represents the data known as at 10 January
1997 and has been compiled by Dr Bill Carey. The second table is current
as at 15 December 2000 and has been compiled by Dr Michael Fietz.
The statistics include both the living and deceased patients
with MPS in Australia and New Zealand.
In this period of recording, a total of 53 new diagnoses of
MPS patients were made. An increase in: MPS 1 - 11; MPS II - 10; MPS IIIA - 13; MPS IIIB - 5; MPS IIID - 1; MPS IVA - 5; MPS VI - 2; and ML
II/III - 6.
There were no new diagnoses recorded for MPS IIIC; MPS VII and
ML I, with MPS IVB being the only syndrome unrecorded in Australia or New
Zealand.
